The Vegpro Group is one of the leading growers, processors and exporters of prepared and pre-pack vegetables and high quality roses to the UK and mainland European supermarket trade. We export in the region of 250 tonnes per week of vegetables and 2 million stems of roses. We also have a substantial rose top-graft business supplying Kenyan and regional rose producers with up to 7,500,000 top-grafts per annum. A particular strength is prepared vegetables and the company has been a major supplier to the UK prepared category since 1998.Initially, a produce trading company, supplying primarily ethnic markets in the UK, Vegpro first became involved in its own farming operations in 1986.The first main step change in the vegetable business was in 1995, when the company built the vegetable packing operations at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi which led to supplying the first UK retail customer. Since that time, both through organic growth and farm acquisition, Vegpro has become the dominant force in vegetable growing, packing and exporting from Kenya, with a wide range of product on offer.Floricultural operations started in the 1980’s with the production of summer flowers for export, followed in 2001 by the planting the first roses. Subsequently, the rose business has grown organically, via innovation and through acquisition to be a significant player in World Floriculture.Vegpro’s core strength is our large-scale farming operations, which enables us to achieve better quality and service levels, and to support the more complex cropping range needed to produce stir-fries and prepared vegetable mixes. Today, VP has a land bank of 2,500 hectares in Kenya across 6 vegetable farms with 80% of VP’S raw material being grown on VP farms and this is fundamental to the success of the company. Vegpro employs over 4,000 permanent employees in Kenya.
