ChowTap is a Nigerian campus commerce and delivery platform building what it calls "the operating system for student life." Founded by John Adesida, ChowTap gives university students fast, affordable access to food, groceries, and everyday essentials through a delivery network purpose-built for campus geography not a city-delivery model retrofitted for hostels, lecture halls, and libraries. As the company's own positioning puts it, ChowTap is "the first food delivery app made for students": fast, reliable, and designed specifically for campus life rather than adapted from a general urban logistics playbook. The Problem ChowTap Solves Africa's digital economy narrative has largely skipped one of its densest and most underserved markets: its 20 million-plus university students. Mainstream delivery platforms Chowdeck, Glovo, Bolt Food were built for open urban markets, with delivery radii, vendor networks, and payment assumptions that don't map onto campus life. Students face short lecture breaks, hostel curfews, dense but contained geography, and irregular, allowance-based spending patterns that these apps simply weren't designed around. A related but distinct problem exists on the logistics side. Nigeria's rider economy is growing faster than the financing infrastructure built to support it. Capable delivery riders are frequently shut out of motorcycle ownership not because they lack the income to eventually pay for a bike, but because no structure exists to reliably convert daily gig earnings into trackable, enforceable repayment. This has produced a financing market defined by high default rates, repossession, and mutual distrust between lenders and riders. The ChowTap Model ChowTap addresses both sides of this gap through a single, connected platform: Campus-native delivery infrastructure. ChowTap onboards and vets campus-specific vendors cafeterias, restaurants, and grocers and routes delivery through a hyperlocal rider network mapped to hostels, lecture halls, and libraries. This is a fundamentally different operating model from city-wide delivery apps: shorter distances, denser demand, and infrastructure built around how students actually move through a day. A student-native payments layer. Rather than requiring students to make repeated bank transfers for every order the default behavior mainstream apps assume ChowTap offers an in-app wallet with voucher balances and split-payment support (wallet balance combined with a Paystack transfer). This is designed to match the reality of student cash flow: irregular, allowance-based, and transfer-heavy. Automated, income-linked rider financing. ChowTap has structured an innovative motorcycle lease-to-own model in which a fixed percentage is deducted automatically from a rider's earnings on every completed delivery, before funds reach the rider. There is no invoice to send and no due date to track repayment happens as a structural byproduct of the rider simply doing their job. Combined with campus-restricted asset use, NIN and BVN identity verification, and GPS tracking, this closes the three primary failure points in conventional motorcycle lease-to-own financing: asset loss, payment default, and rider unreliability. ChowTap is currently structuring this model in partnership discussions with logistics and mobility players, including a formal proposal to UPS Nigeria. Validated Traction ChowTap's model is not a projection it has been validated through an operational pilot at McPherson University. Over 161 operational days, the platform processed 13,515 orders at a 96.7% completion rate, achieved 83% user activation within 5.5 months, and generated over ?36,106,000 in revenue processed. The pilot also produced 98% user retention and 100% vendor retention across 23 active vendors, with 1,806 registered users signals of genuine product-market fit rather than one-time trial usage. Revenue Model ChowTap operates a transaction-based revenue model that scales directly with order volume and campus footprint. Revenue streams include a platform service fee (5% per completed order), delivery fees charged to students, vendor commissions from partnered campus vendors, and a structured revenue layer tied to the rider financing program. Planned financial services wallet float, transaction fees, and embedded fintech products represent a future revenue stream as the platform expands beyond delivery. Expansion Roadmap ChowTap is now expanding from its single pilot campus to a target of 16 university campuses across Nigeria. The company's roadmap targets $21 million in GMV and 105,000-plus active users by 2029, within a $3 billion total addressable market defined by Nigeria's university student population. Planned platform additions include laundry services, event listings and ticketing, embedded financial services, a digital services marketplace, and a campus mobility hub offering EV bike sales, financing, and charging or battery-swap infrastructure to both delivery riders and the broader campus community, including university staff. Fundraising ChowTap is currently raising $250,000 in pre-seed funding to fund vendor and rider network expansion across new campuses. The raise is structured to fund campus launch operations (recruitment, training, onboarding), platform development to support growing order volume, and the operational infrastructure behind the rider lease-to-own financing model directly replicating the pilot's validated unit economics across a much larger footprint, rather than funding unproven experimentation. The company anticipates this raise providing 12 to 18 months of runway to validate multi-campus economics ahead of a Series A. Team ChowTap is led by John Adesida, Founder and CEO, whose background includes founding and leadership experience building and shipping multiple technology products, including prior fintech and AI ventures. Vision ChowTap's stated mission is to simplify how students access food, groceries, and essentials by building the fastest and most reliable campus commerce network in Nigeria. Its longer-term vision is to become the operating system for student commerce across African campuses building the infrastructure through which students access food, essentials, services, and opportunity throughout their university years, and eventually extending this infrastructure across the continent's broader campus population.

BHN was founded in Nigeria as Blackwood Hodge, a subsidiary of John Blackwood Hodge UK, in 1948. It was originally set up for sales & service of earthmoving, mining & road works equipment. In 1973 it was listed on Lagos Stock Exchange and the reigns of leadership passed on totally to Tolaram Group in 1991. In 2001, the business model and the operations were re-engineered to its present vision: "To be the market leader in Haulage Logistics in Nigeria which will eventually pave the way to become a complete Logistics Solution provider" BHN has over time carved its niche and has become a premium haulage service provider in Nigeria. During the initial phases of re-engineering, the operations were focused on provision of haulage support to our Group companies, with a view to aiding their growth. However, with focus on expanding the operations to include logistics support for companies outside the Group, the company started growing rapidly. Today, approximately 65% of its revenue comes from external customers. Fleet Strength The business currently boasts a fleet size of 525 trucks with a mix of both 30'T (380 HP) and 45'T (465 HP). In fact, BHN is a pioneer in the latter category of trucks. With a well-equipped in-house workshop and a comprehensive Purchase Planning and Inventory Control department, the company now has an aspiration to reach a fleet size of 750 trucks by 2016. Client Base BHN currently has an impressive clientele base and serves a number of blue chip companies like Indomie, Nigerian Bottling Company (Coca-Cola), Chivita, Reckitt Benckiser, Far East Mercantile Group, Stallion and Setraco to name a few. These companies are proven stalwarts in their own fields of operations like beverages, consumer goods, construction, agricultural goods etc. The company provides employment to over 1,000 people – 450 of them being directly appointed by BHN while the remaining, in the form of drivers and motor boys, work under the guidance of contractors. The company enjoys full support and dedication of its payroll staff along with contract and casual staff. This is an example of how people make the difference in an organisation's success. The main operations of the company are currently carried out from out of Lagos, which also serves as BHN's Head Office. The company has a branch in Port Harcourt with a new branch opened in the northern part of Nigeria in Kaduna thereby completing the triangle of locations to enable countrywide coverage. The Company has a vision to be the road modal logistics provider of choice to major national and multi-national companies in Nigeria.
