Established a little over 7 years, our company has grown into a big logging and sawmilling operation. We have a Sawmill in Mueda ( Cabo Delgado) North Mozambique which is located just over 350km from Pemba town, where we have our Head Office. The nearest port to the Sawmill is located only 110km at Mocimboa de Praia, serviced by a fully tarmac highway. Over the past couple of years we have been upgrading our Sawmill and forestry equipment, and have boosted its production capacity for sawn timber to 60- 80cbm per day. The mill is fully functional and sits on company owned land of approx. 2.5 acres. There are future plans of setting up a semi- processing, joinery and finished products industry installation, so as to maximise recovery from logs. The sawmill land is sufficient for future expansions. There is also accommodation in the form of log cabins for approximately 20 staff and the directors or senior staffs have separate accommodation suitable for 7. A fully functional mechanics workshop has been set up on one end of the plot, and we have warehouse and storage space for spares and materials. There is a fully functional saw shop and experienced saw doctors who we have brought from Ghana. There is no electricity so we run on generators. We have a concession area of just under 100,000 hectares located 40km from the Sawmill and is served by a government provided road via Chappa village & road constructed by us via Lipelwe village. The concession is a NATURAL FOREST with many indigenous species such as, Umbilla, Chanfuta, Jambire, Metonha, Pau Preto, to name a few and all Hard Woods. The lease on the concession is valid for a period of 25yrs from 2002. Cutting licenses are easily acquired and the authorities are willing to increase quotas based on export performance. Our main export markets have been to South Africa, Mauritius, Vietnam, Thailand, India, UAE, Portugal and Israel. There are many lesser known species, which on testing have shown similar properties to the already well known ones, and show a promising future for Mozambican Hard Woods. In fact one of our South African agents has shown special interest in Metonha and is going to start marketing it there as soon as the season starts. The market for this alone can be upwards of 5000cbm annually, and this is onle South Africa. There is a lot of Pau Preto (African Blackwood) and we have a local client who we supply to and whose requirement is up to 5000mt annually. The workforce is made up of both local and expatriates. Our foreigners come from mainly Ghana, India and Tanzania. They are both there to supervise and train the locals with their expertise. Usually the cutting season in the forest starts in May to the end of December. The heavy rains run from December to end March, and during this period it is very difficult to transport logs from the forest. The best way is to collect enough logs for the 3 rainy months and have them stocked at the sawmill so the sawmill is able to continue work during this period. Any potential buyer who has the experience in logging and sawmilling can immediately realise the huge potential for this business and its future growth. The Mozambican government realises that timber is one of its biggest foreign exchange earners and supports the industry very well. All our exports are supported by legal documents including Phytosanitary Certificates due to sustainable logging.
