La Madrugada Beach Hotel & Resort offers 37 charming rooms and is located on the southeast coast of Zanzibar, in Makunduchi. Makunduchi is a beautiful village, built on ancient coral rock; where you will find white sand beaches that gently run down to greet the turquoise waters. The longest beach is 3 kilometer and is perfect for walking, running, relaxing, and exploring.

The location is idyllic for those who love nature and wish to see a traditional Zanzibar village. La Madrugada is ideal for families, friends and couples. However, please note that it is not recommended for those in search of an exiting nightlife. Nevertheless, this spot is perfect due to its array of beach activities, as well as making an excellent base from which you can explore other areas, such as Stone Town, which is ideal for shopping and learning about the history of the island; Jozania Forest National Park, home to the Zanzibar Red Colobus monkey; and Kizimkazi, where you can swim with dolphins.

We have two pools, with one shallow pool for children, which face towards the sea. At the pool area you will find plenty of sunbeds and our bar, which has an excellent selection of refreshments. A relaxing day by a beautiful pool would not be complete without tasty snacks and tropical drinks.

Makunduchi is a quiet and peaceful place, and the main activities include watersports, trips to the local attractions as well as famous festivals in the area. Usually taking place at the end of July, the Mwaka Kogwa is a celebration of the Shirazi, or Persian new year. It is a flamboyant demonstration of Zanzibar passion and style, with the biggest single event being held at Makunduchi, in southern Unguja.

When it comes to water sports and water activities you will have an excellent selection to choose from. The gentle breezes provide the perfect environment for kiting; the crystal clear water is ideal for snorkeling and diving; and not to forget the deep-sea fishing!
