The Energy Foundation Ghana is a non-profit, private sector institution, devoted to the promotion of energy efficiency and renewable energy, as a key strategy to managing Ghana's growing energy needs in a sustainable manner. It was established in November 1997, by the Private Enterprise Foundation representing private sector energy stakeholders to promote sustainable development and efficient consumption of energy in Ghana.
The Energy Foundation Ghana is a premier organization that specialises in offering energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions to the Ghanaian economy in general and to residential, industrial and commercial energy consumers in particular. The Foundation is the implementing agency for the Energy Demand Management Programme of Ghana's Ministry of Energy, and has gained international acclaim for its innovative and effective energy efficiency interventions. It is governed by an Executive Council made up of representatives of energy sector stakeholders including the major producer and distributor as well as major energy consumers. This gives it the flexibility and versatility to pursue programmes with maximum efficiency and minimum delays.
Since its inception in 1997 the Energy Foundation Ghana has continued to initiate and implement programmes and activities in various areas of energy use.
