Uganda has been variously described as the “Pearl of Africa” by Sir Winston Churchill; as the "Promised Land" by Mary Stuart and in more recent times as one of the most corrupt nations in the world by many commentators. To a large extent Uganda’s post-independence history has earned her much negative press but the truth of the matter is a pearl is a pearl. It may become drossy but all it takes is some polishing before it returns to its original pearly state. This, in a nut shell, is Uganda. BLACK & WHITE has been formed against this background with a vision to make Uganda a different place in the area of Real Estate transactions through practice of the highest ethical and professional standards and through high performance. After all, the Land equals Uganda. Uganda is richly endowed with lush green vegetation. Water spots in form of lakes and rivers include the famous Lake Victoria and the River Nile. Some area s of Uganda are mountainous e.g. the Rwenzori mountains of Fort Portal. Yet, others are panoramically hilly. She sits 3,000 feet above sea level. Her natural endowments immediately set her apart, not only as an agricultural nation but as one with a lot of room in the area of Real Estate development. Lake sides and views, plus islands, are a tourist attraction with much potential for the hotel industry. Planned neighborhoods are already being embarked on by some developers but there is still much room in this area.Currently, government policy is to encourage investors, especially foreign investors. Much development has already taken place but compared to the vast expanses of undeveloped land still available, this could be a drop in the sea. Yet the sky is the limit. The forthcoming Commonwealth Conference that will be hosted by Uganda in 2007, has also given rise to much development at this time. If the map of Africa was in the form of a man, Uganda would be in the heart area. A sound heart is the life of the flesh. Therefore, if Uganda will be healthy, Africa will be healthy. Good health will not depend on physical development per se but on the methods through which these developments are achieved.This calls for a complete change of the mindsets so that the end will stop justifying the means. Uganda needs only a handful of people committed to this cause and this is where the polishing of the pearl begins. She will then rise to bring life not only to Africa but to the nations of the world at large. “ The Pearl of Africa” will shine among the jewels and the “Promised Land" will become the Land of Promise.
