Botswana Vaccine Institute, was established in 1980 as a commercial company is located in an area covering 12,000 square metres in the Broadhurst Industrial Estate, Lejara Road. The institute is designed to the most advanced specifications available.The instutute is completely self contained  it has all the facilities for typing of virus, for FMD research, and for the potency and safety tests.

The institute produces a range of effective vaccines for diseases ranging from foot and mouth to anthrax.We produce vaccines for cattle, buffalo, sheep and goats. 

Our referene laboratory has ben designed to the most advanced specifications available. It services the whole of the Southern Africa region and caaries out activities such as virus identification, production and testing of diagnostic reagents, R&D.

The institute is currently embarking upon a multimillion pula expansion project. This project is geared towards building capacity and production.

Since inception BVI has produced a high quality FMD Vaccine which has prevented outbreaks of the disease even in the high risk areas of Botswana till today. Most of customers outside Botswana have reported excellent results on the use of FMD Vaccine produced by BVI
