Seahorse East Africa Limited is dedicated to the marine industry in Tanzania. The company was established in 1999 and is owned and run by John and Liria van der Loon. The main emphasis of "Seahorse East Africa" is building a range of fibreglass boats, acting as boat broker for used boats, agent for new boats and engines, and the importation and supply of marine equipment. The boat building utilizes a series of moulds to laminate hulls and top decks. The basic hull is called the Chachungi and using this long narrow canoe shaped hull they can be joined together to form catamarans and trimarans. See the range under "new boats".

Boat brokerage, is in essence, an agent who acts on behalf of sellers and buyers of boats, both new and used. This assists both parties to be able to relate directly to the current market forces, and to put the correct value to a boat. The seller is given advice and assistance to sell his boat while the buyer is provided with expert knowledge in the process of deciding on the right boat for the intended use, a detailed description and assessment of boats that are for sale, and after sales back up with regard to repairs, spare parts, maintenance, and basic operating techniques for that particular boat. The seller is charged a commission for the sale of his boat.

Unless the broker is given sole rights to sell the boat then the buyer can also sell it independently. The buyer has only one obligation to the broker. If the broker is the first to show him a particular boat which he decides to purchase, then the sale must pass through the broker. In the boating industry since 1974, and a long term commitment to East Africa since 1993, it is vital for John to ensure that all parties are completely satisfied with any transaction. While every effort is made to confirm the accuracy of the information supplied on the listed boats, Seahorse East Africa cannot be held responsible for any inaccuracies.
