In 2008 Aspen pharmaceuticals one of the largest pharmaceutical companies strategically acquired 100% of Shelys Africa leveraging on Shelys extensive distribution channel in sub Saharan market and in turn ensuring Shelys Africa leverages on advance technological transfer Shelys pharmaceutical in a bid to comply with the increasing market demand and strategic growth into export markets embarked on an expansion strategy by commissioning a new state of the art manufacturing plant that was WHO cGMP compliant.

Shelys was the pioneer in Tanzania to commission a world-class penicillin plant as per WHO cGMP and US FDA standards. With this, Shelys became the first company in Tanzania to manufacture penicillin products locally. Shelys is built on a total area of 200,000 Sq.. The plant is first of its kind in East Africa, and uses the latest European standard Modular Clean Room Panels against the conventional Brick walls. Quality has been the hallmark of Shelys.
