Speke Hotel is named after the famous British explorer, John Hanning Speke who discovered ''The source of River Nile''. Speke Hotel is the first and oldest hotel in Uganda, built in the British Colonial times of the 1920s. It has gone through renovations but maintained its colonial ambience. The hotel has 50 ensuite rooms and all the modern luxury facilities that one would expect in a five star hotel.

There are also several themed restaurants (including Italian and Indian) and one of the best cocktail bars in Uganda. It is situated in the heart of Kampala, close to banks, shopping and business centres, and offers all the charms of bygone days complimented by efficient modern services and facilities. One of Kampala's oldest hotels, Speke Hotel was taken over by The Ruparelia Group in the year 1996. It was then given a major facelift to add comforts to age and grace. All rooms are air conditioned, have wooden floors, satellite television and a minibar.
